FrightShow Fighter is a one-on-one fighting game featuring a cast of creepy characters.
FrightShow Fighter is a horrifically fun 2D indie fighting game using 3D models and animations. The unique art style, similar to Tim Burton, is what sets this game apart from others like it. It's currently available for PC and Mac through Steam. There are plans to launch on Mac, Android, iOS, and consoles in the future. It was created with a custom game engine called "The Kavendek".
The gameplay of FrightShow Fighter is a 1 vs 1 battle between two characters, limited to a 2D space. There are 10 unique characters to choose from, each with their own special abilities. Attack and defend during the match to try and defeat the opponent before the time runs out
This game utilizes a "Pose" mechanic which allows the characters to position themselves into stances for a variety of alternate attacks and blocks. It also introduces a "PowerUp" system that allows any character to use universal, limited, special abilities once within a fight.
The universe of FrightShow Fighter takes place in an alternate reality called the FrightVerse. It was created accidentally when an evil warlock named Xonolox performed a spell that ripped through space and time. This was done during a stage performance at a small local theater, where every Thursday night, a group of people would put on a "FrightShow"; performing fun and entertaining acts. When Xonolox's spell went wrong, all of the performers of the FrightShow were transformed into bizarre versions of themselves. They fight to destroy Xonolox and return to the normal universe from which they came.
Leader of the FrightShow, Mr. Fright, along with his wife Monster Girl were the starring acts. He can control lightning and shoot skulls.
Special Moves:
Master of cats and wife of Mr. Fright, Monster Girl has a very flowing attack style. She can do ballerina kicks and upside down flip kicks. When she attacks, she has magic that extends just beyond her reach to offset her small stature.
Special Moves
Faceless was Mr. Fright's pet bunny. The FrightVerse has turned him into a giant mute bipedal rabbit. He's very big and can shoot lasers from his eyes.
Special Moves
Iron Moose used to be a clown in the FrightShow. Now his black and white sketchiness has taken a liking to boxing. He's super lanky and laughs at everything.
Special Moves
Krunchy and Dr. Igg are inseparable friends. Krunchy is wiley, quick, and surprisingly old. He'll throw his can at any whipper snappers that come his way. Dr. Igg has earned his PhD in hugs, and uses his magic to combat evil.
Special Moves
Once a harmless child's toy, GremBot is now an evil hunk of metal hellbent on destruction. A little explosive gnome lives in his chest.
Special Moves
Krumble Jack used to juggle stuffed toy bears in the real world. In the FrightVerse, he's more familar with angrily chopping down trees and keeping evil bears in his backpack. If need be, he doesn't hesitate to throw them, teeth first, and anyone near by.
Special Moves
As a flesh-eating undead slasher, Zombie Zack is relentless in attacking anything in sight. He's been known to randomly puke all over and throw giant boogers.
Special Moves
McRainbows is a big-headed color creature. Despite the bright colors, this thing is evil, very slow, but surprisingly light. This monster can burp bubbles and launch destructive rainbow dragons.
Special Moves
Xonolox is the evil lord of the flies. He's the reason the FrightVerse exists. This warlock can control flies and can teleport at will.
Special Moves
FrightShow Fighter plays similarly to most other fighting games. It uses a simplified button scheme, utilizing only a punch and kick for normal attack. Holding the Pose button allows players to perform different stationary types of attacks. Hold pose and toward the opponent makes the character more vulnerable, but can deliver a stronger attack. Holding pose and away blocks, but can also perform a weaker attack.
Each character has their own set of 3 special moves. Two of these moves are normal special moves and can be performed at any time. The third is a Power Move and can only be used when the Power Meter is full. Special Moves are performed similar to other fighting games, with half circle, quarter circles, or holding away, then towards.
Power Moves are performed just like special moves, but can only be done when the power meter is full. The meter fills over time, and doesn't change based on damage dealt or received. The speed that the meter fills up is based on the potential damage that the move can deliver.
PowerUps are special items that can be brought into a fight that have different special abilities. 3 PowerUps can be brought into a fight, and can only be used once. They have many different effects and can be used by any character. Unlike special moves, PowerUps are activated with the push of a button.
PowerUps are exhaustable during story mode and are earned by winning fights story mode. They are also unlocked in this way. In 2 player mode, PowerUps are infinite.
FrightShow Fighter has either a 1 player Story Mode, or 2 player local multiplayer
In Story Mode, there are 3 Maps to choose from. Each map has a different number of opponents as the player fights their way to defeat Xonolox. There is also a 3 different difficulties to choose from, Easy, Normal, and Hard.
Players earn PowerUps as they win fights, also unlocking them in 2 player mode as new ones are revealed.
Local 2 player mode lets two people fight head to head. Each player can bring PowerUps into the fight as long as it's unlocked. PowerUps used in this way are infinite.
FrightShow Fighter was created by 3 Fright. A small indie studio of 3 guys. It consists of designer and artist Gus Fink, 3D artist Jeff Brown, and programmer Doug Kavendek.
