Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows is a soft reboot of the Gaunlet series, giving it a more serious and dark approach. Gameplay-wise is a simplistic fantasy-themed action game that follows four heroes: a warrior, a valkyrie, a wizard, and an elfas they battle to right the wrongs of an emperor who has left the fate of the world in peril.
Like previous Gauntlet games, the player and up to three more friends can battle simultaneously either locally or for the first time in the series, online. In Seven Sorrows there is more emphasis on melee attacks, with each character having their own set of combo moves, that can be expanded at the end of each level by purchasing upgrades and new moves. The game also ditched the previous game's customization, inventory system, exploration, and hub world, focusing only on linear levels and status increases throughout the short-lived camping.
On July 14, 2008, Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows became available on the Xbox 360's Xbox Originals download service for 1200 Microsoft Points.
